Welcome!

This Fellowship was established in 1996 by the West family in memory of our Aunt Mary McCrorie (nee West), who was deeply affected when her sister developed Alzheimer Disease. Mary, like so many relatives and caregivers of Alzheimer patients was significantly impacted by this diagnosis.

alz1Her wish was to help find an effective treatment or cure so that families could have hope that their loved ones would not have to suffer its debilitating effects. While this Fund has been established in memory of our Aunt, it represents an opportunity for all families impacted by Alzheimer Disease to support research into finding a treatment or cure for this life altering illness.

This Fund was established in cooperation with The University of Manitoba to provide a Fellowship which will be awarded each year to a student enrolled in the Ph.D. program. Students must possess an outstanding academic record and submit a strong proposal addressing research for the treatment or cure of Alzheimer Disease and also indicate their plans to pursue a career in this field.

Our family believes that by finding a treatment or cure, the burden on families will be reduced the greatest over the long term. The donations to the Fund are used 100% for this purpose. There are no administration charges to the Fund, as The University of Manitoba provides this service through The Department of Private Funding. This Fund is the only one where its sole purpose is to use all of the dollars contributed to fund an award which targets Alzheimer research, by supporting students at The University of Manitoba to undertake the required studies to find an effective treatment or cure for Alzheimer Disease.

Thank you for taking the time to look through our website and for considering support of this very important cause. We appreciate all contributions over the years that have helped to establish and sustain this on-going Fellowship. Our goal is to continue to increase the amount and number of Awards, in order to help students pursue their academic and career objectives to find a treatment or cure for Alzheimer Disease.
