How to Apply For Award

The family of Mary McCrorie (nee West) has established a fund in her memory which will provide a Fellowship to be awarded each year to a graduate student at the University of Manitoba. The Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative has also made a contribution to this fund. The purpose of this annual Fellowship is to support a promising student at The University of Manitoba who plans to make a career in research for the cure or treatment of Alzheimer Disease.

The fund has been set up as an endowment fund. Income from the fund currently supports a Fellowship Award of $5,000 to a first time recipient. In addition, the Award is renewable for a second year in the amount of $5,000, should the first time recipient continue to qualify in their course of studies as per the Terms of Reference guidelines.

Applicants must be registered in a Ph.D. program at the University of Manitoba and must have an outstanding grade point average (minimum 3.5), and a strong research proposal addressing potential treatments or cures for Alzheimer disease. Applicants must submit a letter of intent, which includes a statement of plans for a career in research in the field of Alzheimer disease, a research proposal, university transcripts, and curriculum vitae.

This fellowship is not available to students who have received other awards that, in total, accumulate to $25,000 or more per year. Applications are to be received by the Faculty of Graduate Studies Dean’s Office by May 15 each year. The selection committee shall be named by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and shall include a representative from the Centre on Aging and a representative of the family.
